I have an automatics-only bike licence. I've had a Honda Silverwing 600 scooter for three years and want something faster, but don't want the hassle of doing the test all over again with a 'normal' motorbike. Would it be legal for me to ride a Yamaha FJR1300AS? (That's a 1300cc sports-tourer with an electonically controlled clutch). Even if it was, would I find it dangerously powerful and relatively impractical?
it will all depend on the DMV. although the clutch is electronically controlled, you still have to manually shift. i don't think you will find the bike dangerously powerful or impractical. remember, the gear ratios in the transmission is what determines how the power meets the road. it will be a big power difference at first but you will get used to it quickly and may even be thankful for it the first time a car driver doesn't see you.
