I come from the SF Bay Area in CA, but I have no problem with cold, rain, or snow. I like the outdoors and especially biking. I want to major in biology (pre-med), and don't want to be in a competitive one-up atmosphere. I do not drink, and would like to find lots of other people whose idea of fun is a cappella, sports games, outdoors, random contests, art, etc. I am well-off financially but I hate being around pretentious rich people who love to shop and flaunt their wealth. I want to know some people when I walk in between classes, but I still want to discover new people in my senior year.
WashU seems very good in all aspects except cost: I can afford the tuition, but it seems like everything is overpriced. I've heard that they charge for internet in dorm rooms, for example.
My biggest worry about Dartmouth is the social scene, which I've heard revolves around alcohol. I find frat parties boring in comparison to fine arts performances, for example.
Dartmouth: the mere fact that its an ivy league school will make a huge difference for the rest of your life. Not everybody knows that WashU is a good college by name only, but everybody subconsciously will give you points for going somewhere in the same group as Harvard and Yale. |
