Any Opinion or Experience with this Electric Scooter?

Looking into purchasing a scooter for hubby. Cost is a big factor as to whether we can buy. In the meantime, have come across on eBay the following item:

Invacare 2007 Collapsable Blue Lynx 4 Wheeled Scooter
Model: Invacare #L-4B

Here is the link:

Please let me know - from experience - what works best...even any suggestions for other brands you've tried.

* I need affordable ! Under $1000 total cost (includes s&h)
* I need one that I can break apart easy and put in back trunk of my Nissan Murano
* Need a model that is able to accomodate someone who can not bend legs well, and the steering bar needs to be minimal obstruction (so knees don't get crushed or banged up)

Thank you ahead of time for your suggestions!

Hi,
I have used electric scooter through out my life and have found many to be clapsable. I have the disability Cerebral Palsy. I have used Shoprider scooters in the past and found them sturdy an dependable. Depening on your husbands problem a 3 wheeled scooter is more clapsable than 4 in alot of cases.

As for the the Ebay Item in question I would be careful, items like medical equipment Wheelchairs walkers scootersthe expense usually comes it the S&H cost and jumps alot.

Also, before you go spending Money check with your Doctor and see if he will write a persciption most of the time insurane will cover things like this.

If you can not wait for insurance, often times you can find used Medical equipment, such as. scooters, wheelchairs, walkers in the newspaper or pennysaver for the price range you are looking for. If bought through loacl means you usually have the option to go look at it before you buy.

If you buy local or over the net make used make sure the batteries are "New or Like New" replaced. Also, make sue the batteries are sealed Gel cell (very important.)

If a scooter says it will go 24 miles one way or a day, it is a bit deseptive, rule of thumb cut miles in half. (12 miles out +12 miles back = to 24 miles) When the say 24 miles They are often refurring to a flat surface. No hills or driveways.
(learned from exprience)

If you are driving somewhere in a car first the miles are more forgiving.

Anymore help needed email me.
Good Luck,
Mystryfann

That is a very light weight scooter. I just purchased one for just under $1,000 which looks very much like this - an Amigo Go Go. I cannot recommend it for anyone as a primary scooter. I am using it as a back-up. I bang my knees on it almost everytime because it is small and compact. There is no place to put your feet if you cannot bend in the one you are considering.

Instead of looking for the cheapest scooter you can find - instead I suggest you look for a compact scooter that meets your needs second-hand. If you buy cheap I doubt it will last and you will end up spending more in the log run.

I wonder that electric scooter is lacking horse power.

I would recommend both word of mouth and reviews in rating.

There is a website that I found for you that can show you the rating of different wheelchair scooter.

From what I also hear if you are lucky, the medical insurance company should pay for it but don't take my word. That what I heard from TV from time to time.

Get yourself one of those heavy duty but I am not sure if it go fast. The second one have headlight. That will work during nighttime.

all i can say,is choose carefully. Buy wisely

Well, first of all, does your hubby qualify for Medicare or any other insurance that will pay for one of these? If so, go that route--you'll get a much better product. Myself, I have a Hoveround. This is a standard power chair, whereas what is in that photo in the link is a scooter. If your husband has a problem with bending his legs, he may have a problem with this bar in the middle and the steering system. This same company also puts out standard power chairs where the steering & speed mechanisms aew right at your hands reach, and no bar in the middle. If I'm not mistaken, it's Invacare that also makes the Pride/Jet 7 chair. Go back to the site and check it out. NO--they are NOT cheap! They're around $5,000. But, if you have any kind of insurance that pays for this type of thing, then he will need doctors orders to get one, and you go from there. Be VERY careful about buying anything like this on-line---I wouldn't do it! Good luck in your search, but be careful as to where you get it. Many of the medical supply houses do carry used ones at a lower price than new.

1800wheelchair.co.uk is a great site. Email them with any ideas and they will help you. I know it is a Uk site but they may ship abroad.

The only problems with these collapsable models is that they are still heavy and they are unsteady on uneven ground. Have you thought of getting a more heavy duty one and towing it ion a trailor. Thats what we did
