Can you park a motorcycle or scooter on the sidewalk?

From observation, asking various people, and even asking police officers and parking officials, they say that although the state law prohibits parking any motor vehicle on the sidewalk, Denver has an ordinance that allows two-wheeled vehicles to park on the sidewalk. I see scooters on the sidewalk or in bike walks every day without tickets hanging from them. Does anyone know the number or section of the Denver Code that allows motorcycles or scooters to park on the sidewalk?

I live in Colorado Springs, not Denver, I hadn't heard that sidewalk parking was particularly legal, but it is a common occurance, as we with motorcycles will alot of times pull in and park next to the bike rack on a sidewalk.

I did one time get a parking ticket like warning from a private company that monitors parking that didn't appreciate me parking my motorcycle in a nice little cubby hole near a Store, but it wasn't a real ticket.

I have and will continue to park on sidewalks with my motorcycle, although I try to do a couple of things like, not be pain in the *** about it, if someone asks me to move, I would. I would also make sure to not block a sidewalk, which might get you a different ticket than strictly a parking ticket (it would also be rude).

If your doing it someone's neighborhood you might also break some covenants, which depending on the neighborhood, might be able to fine the owner of the house you are parked in front of.

Link to the Denver City Municipal codes in sources, maybe you can find something specific, but I couldn't

Denver sidewalk parking is limited to 50cc engines and below as long as they don't obstruct pedestrian traffic.

So if you have a small scooter, you can get away with it.

well in indiana, i park my bike on MY OWN sidewalk when i am at home or in between a day ride. but i dont know about like downtown parking it on the sidewalk... i dont know how that would roll round here

I think your best bet is to check with the local PD. Some places may have a local ordnance which could be street or zone specific. This way you avoid the ticket hassle and the old "somebody told me it was O-K" routine. Think KISS, keep it simple stupid. You are dealing with town officials in the long term. Have a good scooter day. BA in Mystic, CT

It depends on local laws. Check with other riders who live nearby.
