How do you increase the top speed of a 49cc engine?

I recently purchased a 49cc, 2 stroke, 2 wheeled scooter and was wondering what are some ways to increase the top speed of this scooter, or give it more power?

Bore it out, increase the diameter of the cylinder to make the capacity bigger. Many people do this with their scooters, I don't actually know much about it but take it to a scooter shop and ask them.

Get off and push?

Less restrictive exhaust
Taller gear on the wheel (will affect take off)
Add a turbo

You don't have much to work with though...

If its chain drive fit a smaller rear sprocket, If not re-jet the carb

You want a high top-end speed from a 49 cc engine? Try removing the drive chain and coasting downhill.

gearing and props will do it also there isnt much u can do being a small motor

Okay here is what I did to mine :

Big bore kit - new cylinder head and piston
polish the intake
bigger carb
larger rear sprocket
took the governor off
replaced the twist grip with a real (metal) one.
truely balance the rims
and bypass the CVT transmission to direct drive
new bigger pipe
vance and hines slip on pipe

now my X1 2nd generation goes 58-65MPH
before it would only go 28MPH

probebly the cheapest way would be to buy a bigger engine like a 90cc or a 125 4 stroke

You're better off trading it in for a biger one, if that's what you want. I never saw a person who bought a two wheeled motor vehicle who didn't decide a week later that he needed a bigger one.

downhill,wind behind

First, have a scooter shop check to see if the motor has been "derestricted" meaning that the device that the government requires be installed to limit speed it removed. You can do this yourself, but I don't know your mechanical expertise and it varies by manufacturer. Griffin1972 referred to it as a "governor" which is another name for it.

Next, you can performance parts such as an aftermarket exhaust or a simple bolt-on cylinder & piston. You can also go on to change gears, and do an ton of other mods, but that will all add up $$$. You'll have to weigh the cost with results and decide if you just want to upgrade to a new model.

Good luck!
