Is it safe to use WD 40 on wheel nuts? |
My mate just finished putting some bikes together for me and he sprayed the wheel nuts with WD 40. Thing is i did this to a scooter that had a squeaky wheel and within minutes the wheel fell of. WD 40 is used to slacken nuts off so im now wondering if the nuts will stay tight. WD40 can be used to free rusted or stuck nuts or bolts but should never be used for lubricating bearings. yes just make their on tight Sure -- but if the nuts are frozen an even better penetration oil is SiliKroil -- available on th net at yes it is safe to use, just make sure that the wheel nuts are on tight. You sprayed the squeaky wheel, but you didn't say you tightened it, so it must not have been tight. If the nuts are tight they won't come loose. |
