What is the best scooter out there for the money? |
I would like to buy a scooter. I know nothing about them. What is the best scooter for the money? If you take them to the grocery store, how do you keep people from stealing them? They look like you could just pick them up and carry them away. Are they hard to drive? Would a motorcycle be a better buy than a scooter? I've been riding a 2007 KYMCO Xciting 250 for the past 4 weeks and it's great. Handles well, good take off from a stop, and plenty of storage under the seat.Plus you can add a trunk box if you need extra storage space. It's averaged about 62 mpg, after the initial break in. It will do highway speeds, but I wouldn't recommend that type of use because it's only about 400 lbs. and the wind would blow you all over. I'm over 200lbs and the scooter will move out fast and get me ahead of the traffic with no problems. I have been riding a 750cc motorcycle for the last 10 years, and the Xciting 250 is by far much easier to ride on around town. KYMCO used to make Honda parts and from all the research I've come across, it seems to be a good brand that cost less than the name brands. The Xciting is water cooled, which is a great thing if you get stuck in some traffic on a hot day, because you won't cook the engine. Only problem I could see for someone is the seat height is pretty tall. I've got a 34" inseam and can touch down both feet comfortably, much shorter than 32" you will be on your toes at a stop. The believe the new EFI version has a slightly shorter seat height. This scooter comes with a 2 year warranty and some dealers will sell you an extended. Well if you are just going to do round the neighborhood scooting, then either the Yamaha or the Honda will do the job for you. While it may be ugly, the Yamaha C3 is a great choice as it has a lot of storage area, 9 gallons of storage! Plus it being so ugly the chances of it being stolen is less. Use common sense when parking any motorbike, kids love to play on them and idiots will hurt themselves. I would prefer a cycle to a scooter. Any cycle can be stolen by 4 guys and two 4 x 4's. Use a simple hidden audible motion detector ( hidden). The modern scooter is a work of art. I love the Suzuki Burgman 400 but it is a little pricey @$5500ish new. Depends on what and how you plan on using it. In my case, I purchased a Schwinn Valo 150. I us it for driving back and forth to work. My round trip is just over 20 miles and I stick to the residental streets. This is my first scooter I have ever purchased or driven. I'm a novice like you and still learning the ropes as it were. I originally practiced driving it in a very large parking lot at a local school. Have been lucky enough to say I have not spilled it. LOL "New To Scooters" thread. Yamaha C3 by far, Best gas mileage. Scooter is scooter and mobike is mobike. The fuel average is more in mobike. The best scooter is Honda Activa av.con. 50km/litre The Kymco Agility 50 , well made , priced right and they use to make Honda's motors for them. |
