I am considering buying a scooter and have been doing some research. Anyone familiar with Lance models?

What should I be looking for in buying one? Engine size 150 vs 250. I'll be using for short trips to store and work. Is back compartment necessary or is it a pain in the back? Any problems with ordering from online sources? I was considering a Lance 150 for about 1300. It looks pretty good bit it's made in China. No windshield tho and I don't think there is a radio. Please help.
Thanks.

Hi Ken, I have been a long time reader of the scooter forums at www.scooterbbs.com and www.scootdawg.com The general consensus on these forums is to avoid buying online as you will have NO warranty, No part supply, and NO service. There is horror story after horror story of people getting broken machines and then getting no service whatsoever from the online dealer. If you can find a local dealer with a real building and service/parts department, they are out there and are your best bet. Regarding the scooters, probably 99% of the Chinese 150s use the same GY6 engine and it has proved to be durable and parts are available from many sources (IE www.partsforscooters.com ). Many of the 250 machines have water cooled engines and many have been problematic with overheating.

GB is right on everything, although I will add two things he didn't, on http://www.scootdawg.com we've had a handful of Lance owners, not really enough to get a proper sampling, that have seemed above average satisfied with their purchase (that isn't saying much admittedly on a Chinese scooter). If you want to order online, prepare to be your own mechanic, and give a look over there to see if anyone's got experience with the company you're looking at buying from. Ifn you want Chinese from a quality dealer, and must order, consider http://www.bandit-motorsports.com/, Jim's carrying both his line of Chinese scoots, and several good reliable brands, and will for a small fee assemble, test and custom recrate the scooter for you, leaving you only to connect the battery and fill the tank as well as register it.
