The rear brakes on my scooter squeal terribly when applied. What could cause this (i have had new pads fitted |
The scooter is relatively new (purchased last october ) and the repair place I use seem at a loss as to its cause. Take the pads back out and coat the backs (the metal plate not the friction material) with a thin smear of copper based grease like Copperslip. Do not let the grease come into contact with the disk (rotor in USA) or the friction material of the pads. Don't get it on your hands either as it is carcinogenic. This should help the squealing. Do not use ordinary grease as the melting point is too low. It must be a copper based grease. its the type of brake pads used dust in between the pads and the disc Either dust between pad and brake or badly scored disc The quality of the pads could be an issue, as well as dirty drums. If you got mud or other dirt on the drums, then the brakes were applied, the heat can cause glazing on the drums which will cause squeaking. It doesn't really affect the performance of the breaks, but it's VERY annoying. dukeofspace Has given you the correct answer, give him the 10 points. |
