Scooter Searching?

My boyfriend and I are looking at buying a scooter. We need something that can carry both of us 5'5 and 5'10, 150 and 165 lbs. We want to do some trips that would be around 100 miles + one way every now and then. My boyfriend plans on driving what we buy to work when he can, freeways included in that drive. We like the Kymco xciting 500cc. We want to know if the 09 with fuel injection would be worth waiting until mid July for or if the 08 original engine would do just fine. I guess this is a two part question. So what bike do you recommend and ALSO what do you think would be a better decision if we choose the xciting, the 08 or the 09. We are very open to suggestions so suggest on! Keep in mind I'm antsy and just wanna scoot!

Thanks for the input!

ALSO forgot to mention, I am planning on buying a scooter of my own for transportation to work and around town. I do have to drive on a 65mph road for a good 15 miles to work. I like the idea of a 150cc. Is that going to be enough for the freeway driving I need to do? What would be a good scooter for me? I am the 5'5 150.

As far as the personal scooter... you should probably get a 250cc and try and get a liquid cooled rather than forced air scooter. at 150cc it may top out at 60-65mph but you dont want it to be at its limit all of the time because it will be hard on the scooter and it may become less reliable. A 250cc scooter will handle those speeds all day long. The Kymco People 250 is a great scooter and would be perfect for you I think. Its even got a place under the seat to charge your cell phone.

http://www.scootforum.com has a lot of owners and repair manuals for whatever scooter you might choose.

You can not find a better scooter than a Kymco the are the largest manufacture in the world for scooters. The 500 is the top of the line. People trade in Burgmans and Silver wing s and even Gold wings on them. I have ridden one a lot and would talk it anywhere. You can wait for the 09, but scooters are going fast. They have one or two that will fill the bill on a 150cc also.

Look for a used Honda Helix 250cc scooter which will more than handle your two-passenger long-distance travel needs.

Good luck!

the original italian vespa. look it up.

Scoot! Magazine is out with their buyers guide issue. It can be pickup at Barnes and Nobles Bookstores.

i have one on sale for 100 dollars and its a motorcycle its brand new

Honda makes a 500cc (silver wing) and Suzuki makes a 650 Burgmann), Both would be fine. Forget the new chinese stuff for a few years while they develop a track record on someone else money. 2 up and 100 miles one way a few times a year, with other shorter trips thrown in is fairly serious road work. Why not get a cycle. I think you could pick up a Kawasaki 1500 Vulcan, 2 or 3 years old, with saddle bags, crash bars and a windshield all ready on and have the package ofr less than a new 500cc scooter. Yamaha has an 1100 V star. These bikes have size and displacement but are not mindlessly powerful. You'll be way ahead, esp. in freeway traffic. Take a riders course and buy helmets and safety gear. Enjoy.

For you.... at least a 250 scooter. I love the Suzuki 400 Burgmann.

I found the Aprilia Scarabeo 500 was a really plush ride for a passenger. They also have some great panniers and a topbox with a backrest. As a passenger, I did not enjoy the Suzuki Burgman 650, but the redesigned 400 was better. Honda Silverwing is nice and the backrest is adjustable which is nice on long trips.

The fuel injection on the new KYMCO should make it more reliable (although the previous version was not unreliable) and I suspect that it should be better on fuel consumption. However, I am always cautious about buying first year models of anything. If you can stand to wait, go ahead. Try out both. if you don't see that much of a difference, negotiate a smoking deal on the older model.
