at first it just looked like it had shrank itself down a little bit but then a portion of it withered up and died off!! Also i just added to zooanthid frags and they have barely opened up. I obviously have tested water parmeters and nothing is out of the ordinary. However, i have also noticed that my scooter blenny slides across them quite often; could that be the cause? Nah, it sounds more like a lighting problem what how big is the tank and how much lighting do you have. Try placing the buttons higher up in the tank. Xenia has higher lighting requirements than anything mentioned med-high. If your lights are indeed the problem try anthellia and/or glove polyps. They look similar but grow faster, hardier, and have less lighting requirements. the water probally is not rite or the hardness is not correct. id do a water change and the cooter bleeny could be eating at the rock and cause it do die Did you test calcium and alkalinity? Do you dose your tank with supplements regularly and do you have tests for those? Soft corals like the xenia do really well with regular doses of iodine or iodide. I wouldn't advice supplementing unless you can also test for the substance you're adding.
It's possible that the blenny could have irritated them, but xenia is like a coral weed and shouldn't just up and die. If your zoa's aren't opening up, either, I would guess that something is off in the water chemistry. |
