The estimate from one place was $600: $200 for parts and $400 for labor. The break down was completely out of the blue since the scooter has been fine since I got it 2 months ago. that does sound about right, swapping the piston is a pretty major job. The piston itself is cheap but you gotta also get rings, gaskets etc. $600 is the average going rate for that job. If the piston was busted, the cylinder is most likely damaged. To bore the cyl is about $50 (if it's possible to do or if some one will do it). Otherwise a new one is needed which can cost over $150. It takes about 4-5 hrs to repair. depends how busted the piston is and what happened, did it seize or did it break into pieces?? if it broke up, bits could have gotten into crankcase which means a full engine strip, you may need other parts as well (bearings, crank, cylinder) How many miles on it? do you check injection oil tank frequently? Its going to take more than an hour to strip motor so it depends on the labour rate as well. Shop may not wantt to work on it so they gave excessive estimate ($600.00 sounds reasonable though, depending on what they intend to do, high if its just change piston/cylinder) Whats it worth in good condition?
