What do I do to get my seized scooter back on the road?

Ok-- I'm not mechanically inclined. At all.

I ran my '88 Yamaha Riva 125 with low oil and it died on me. A friend of mine checked it over and it has next to no compression left.

What now? I want to get it back on the road, but I have no idea what exactly needs to be done to it, or what I should expect to pay for parts and/ or service for something like this.

Obviously I won't be doing any of the work myself (I have no idea what I'm doing)...... so......

Thanks!

total loss

No soap dude...engine seized means rebuild or replace it. Get a new bike.

Push it to the road and leave it there. If you're lucky, someone might steal it. It's going to cost you more than it's worth to have it reapired.

Take it to a mechanic, they will fix it or buy a new engine . I was able to find a replacement on ebay for less than the cost of repair. You can also switch the engine oil and crank the engine attaching an extra battery. It will still need to be repaired by a qualified technician.

no compression = minimum of a top end rebuild. I looked at where I order parts but it did not list a '88 Yamaha Riva, so not even sure where to buy parts other than thru your local yamaha shop (if they even carry parts for 19 y/o bike)...

on most dirt bikes, parts for a top end replacement are $100-150 and only a couple hours of labor depending on which bike, so you are looking at a minimum of a couple hundred dollars if you don't do any of the work yourself...

I was reading through your questions and was actually thinking of what could be wrong and what could be done about it. Until you mentioned for the second time that it was an '88 model. Seriously dude, Scott H is right - just get rid of by any means necesary. It is not worth doing a top end on a 20 year old scooter unless you can do the labor yourself.

Tip for the future - if you never do any other maintenance to your car, truck, scooter, lawnmower, logsplitter, or whatever - check the oil level often and change it when you're supposed to.

If you are lucky it can be fixed for $200 - $300 assuming the lower end is ok. I would junk it and start over with a better bike, and use a good oil such as Royal Purple.
