From what I understand I have to get a class M endorsement on my license. I would have to have a learners permit be watched by someone ect. However I know no one to watch me with one who has a valid motorcycle license. You can bypass having the learner's permit by going to a motorcycle education class. But they teach you on a motorcycle. I want no part of a motorcycle because I seriously have issues with things that are not automatic with a clutch. The classes in my area at Apex Cycle Education say you can't use your own bike hence my scooter. So I dunno what to do. Anyone know if I am reading the rules right? If so are there classes offered that Virgina DMV accepts for those riding scooters not motorcycles. Because they operate diffrentlly but similar. I was hoping they would classify that as a moped.
"Although you do not need a driver's license to operate a moped, you may not operate a moped if you have been declared a habitual offender or your license is suspended or revoked for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs."
Then you wouldn't have to worry about it, but alas, they classify a moped as being under 50 cc.
So, yes, I'm afraid you will need the "M" endorsement.
But if you can do this...
If you are 19 or older you must do the following to add the Class M designation to your current license:
Pass the required vision screening
Pass the motorcycle knowledge exam
Hold a motorcycle learner's permit for 30 days
Pass the motorcycle road skills test
You should be able to do it without taking the classes.
If you're under 19...
If you are under 19, to receive a motorcycle designation on your driver's license, you must:
Pass the required vision screening
Pass the motorcycle knowledge exam
Hold a motorcycle learner's permit for 9 months
Pass the motorcycle road skills test I think one of the MSF locations in Nova has a scooter or two for classes (400 cc Yamaha Majesty). You can contact the main MSF office and ask about it. |
