Besides the sides of roads, other great, although not glamourous, places to collect cans are:
-sidewalks and trashcans outside of grocery stores
-same outside movie theaters (people are always sneaking stuff in)
-same outside schools, especially high schools and colleges(you could also check the trash cans inside the school, especially the cafeteria)
-trash at local parks or festivals
-trash cans lining public streets
-trash at sporting events
Now that fall is just about here, bees will be more aggressive since they are preparing their hives for winter, plus facing their own demise. Bees may be inside some soda cans, so please use caution in collecting them since any bee inside will be more likely to sting.

if you are a kid , go to the supermarket and get them from customers before they cash in at the supermarket ??
have a sign ready about your scooter and dont forget to say THANK YOU go to junk shops, then look for available trash that can be recycled
