Where to ride? |
I have a problem with cars trying to share the lane with me when they are passing on a two lane road, and with them passing me in the turn lanes. I know my scooter doesn't go that fast, but I'm only going ten miles under the speed limit. Am I riding in the wrong part of the lane? What is the best lane position to discourage people sharing the lane, at the very least? Ride slightly left of center in your lane. Use your horn when someone's making an illegal passing move on you. A scooter in your vernacular, is probably a scooter. Basically a 10- speed bicycle you don't have to pedal. Drive it like a bicycle & keep out of the way of real 'motor vehicles' & you won't get hurt. Try & drive it like a motorcycle, hope you've good life insurance for your kids to bury you with. If you are going 10mph under the speed limit pull over a bit and let the cars pass you. Otherwise ride where the inside tire of a car would go. One lane road: Ride 10 over the speed limit, then you will not be impeading traffic. If you're on a scooter, going slower than the flow of traffic, you should be to the right in the same position as a bicycle. If you ride in the position of a bicycle expect to be treated the same as one. Ride in the lane blocking position between the centre line and the middle of the lane if you are an a scooter and not a mo-ped or powered bicycle. The best position to get yourself killed is riding against the curb because someone WILL try to share your lane. |
