How do I get money for college at my hometown?

I've filled out my FAFSA and I qualify for student aid. My father passed the way sevral years ago and my mothe works at a poultry plant. Through college, I plan on working part time, but I'm still going to be drowning in expenses and I want to stay away from loans.
I live in a small town and since I can ride my bicycle to most locations, I never felt the need for an automobile. In the big city, where I'll be attending college, I plan on taking advantage of the public transportation. That might not take me to all the places, and to avoid getting ran over while riding a bicycle, I see the need for a larger, faster vehicle. What do you guys think about that idea; would you say it's necessary? If so, which kind should I purchase? I will need a fuel efficient one, maybe a small car, motorcycle, moped, or scooter. It's a possibility to resell them too, if I could find where to purchase them for a lower price.

I don't want to become a stripper, I doubt others would want my bony butt on their face. I have considered the military, but I want to attend college first, and maybe I'll look into it again in three or four years.
I've looked at scolarships and have only been awarded one--a very generous one from my school. I applied for sevral though. While hunting for scolarships at fastweb, I thought about my chances of winning one. The availability of the scolarchips were usualy between 1 and 6, sametimes it was "varies". Students all over the nation are applying for thise. I want to share my time applying for the long shots, and some that have better odds. I don't think anyone has asked the business owners in my hometown for financial aid to go to college. I want to ask them, but how do I go about doing it? How do I make them believe I'm using the money for school and not bicycle parts? What do I need to know? How will I get the money? Will they write a check to me or my school? I want to try.

In many college towns in large cities, there isn't a necessity for a vehicle because they know that college kids are mainly strapped for cash because of tuition, and books and living expenses. They often provide ample public transportation that would take you anywhere you would need to go within the college and the local city. Besides buses, and subways, if there are any, there are always cabs and friends to give you an occasional ride. With gas prices and everything if you do get a vehicle, I would try to get the most fuel efficient one for your money, believe me, I'm a college student as well and I know how hard it is to keep up with everything with limited cash. Anway, I hope you enjoy college and good luck with everything.

There are college grants for everyone. Check it out on the net. Also your Dean at school is supposed to have these
answers. Don't wait any longer, should have already started
that. These grants you don't pay back. Many times when
parents make only so much it goes faster. If you live in the big city get a room close by college. Try to go there and get your
facts down, then it'll all come into focus..

First, check and see if the college you are attending will allow freshmen to have cars because some colleges don't. Will you be staying on or off campus? Most colleges have off campus housing available within a short distance of the campus so that transportation will not be a factor. Since it is your first year, I would suggest that you take advantage of the public transportation available to save money and then maybe get a car for your 2nd year. I didn't have a car in my first year of college but I became friends with people who did have a car and we would just split the cost of gas for our escapades!
I wish you well in college and please stay safe in the big city!
