How do i get road tax for my scooter when my insurance has expired? |
im not driving my scooter anymore as i have a work van now but i need road tax as it is parked on the road untill i sell it. surely i dont have to pay out for insurance i dont need just to get tax Yes, it is illegal to park an uninsured or UNTAXED! vehicle on the road, so why not put it in a friends garage or in a garden? e you can sorn it if not on a public road other wise you will have to get it insured again I am sure you still need insurance even if your not riding it. To get road tax you will need a valid MOT certificate and insurance. In the UK you have to have insurance before you can tax your vehicle. Is there no way you can park it off the road until you can sell it as that way you could declare it off road and get a SORN (statutory off road notification)? This way you won't have to insure it. Just do NODS - without insurance it shouldn't even be parked on the road - either that or - don't be such a tighwad and pay up then cancel the insurance when you sell it! Tax is only 拢15 per year...hardly gonna break the bank! You will only get tax if the scooter has got insurance. You can't, you have to insure it unless you declare it off the road (SORN) and it must be off the road, i.e on your private driveway or in a garage You'll have to find somewhere to park it off road and get a SORN (statutory off road notice) against the vehicle. This can be done on a standard vehicle tax form. Otherwise you are lumbered with insuring it to get tax. I am afraid that you will need to produce insurance documents to get your VED disc. Yes, it's a pain! But if it's parked on a public road, you have to have it taxed and insured. You need to insure it first to avoid much bigger trouble. You can try to visit this cheap car insurance site http://www.nightbirdssolutions.com it will provide you list of car insurance companies that could really help you. Goodluck You can't get tax without insurance and if your not going to be using it again you declare it of road (sorn) and it must be kept of the road. It is all done electronically (MOT Tax & Insurance, so there is no-way out of it im afraid. You don't. Get insured or get it off the road If you can get it off public road then SORN it when the dvla send you your Renell form out to tax your scooter you either tax it for 6 or 12 months but their is a section were you claim what their call a sorn which means you still own the bike but its of the road so you don't have to tax it but if you go on the road with the bike and you get caught the bike is redeemed to have no road tax and it can be impounded or even crushed |
