Motor scooter?

i was thinking of getting a motor scooter instead of a car. Are motor scooters cheaper?? do you need insurance? Driver license ? if it helps i live in New York but am going to college in Maryland. any info would be extremely helpful

how much does the insurance usually go for?

check out the New York Scooter Club

Insurance...yes
License....yes
Gas....save a lot of $
Rainy day......poopie
other drivers do not see motorcycles!

i would consider buying something like a suzuki bergman or similar...It is automatic like a scooter, easy to drive...just slightly larger with more storage, more comfortable seats and more options for a comfortable ride...and it also has a lot more power than a standard scooter...legal on any highway or interstate. yes, you do need insurance

about insurance and driver license anything you need to know about scooters in maryland...

i hope it would help...

Moped/Scooter Laws:
1. You must be 16 years of age or older to operate a Moped or Scooter on a public road.
2. Operators of a Moped or Scooter must have the minimum of a class E license. (In some states a 49 cc vehicles requires no license even though you may need a tag see your state regulations).
3. No motorcycle endorsement is required.
4. Moped or Scooter must be registered annually and a tag purchased.
5. Moped or Scooter may not be operated on bicycle paths or footpaths.
6. Moped or Scooter operators do not have to carry PIP insurance.
7. Operators 16 years of age or older are not required to wear helmets.

it would be enough..visit the web site link above..it would be helpful

stick with your car

I've loved my bikes for years but it really is a lifestyle choice, not one of practicality.

a scooter depreciates to almost no value in a couple of years. It gets dropped, scratched, perhaps stolen. You need to carry a helmet around, and a rainproof oversuit, gloves.

In New York it gets pretty cold in the winter, doesn't it? Riding in the snow is extremely cold in my experience.

give it a lot of thought. There are advantages and disadvantages. They get fabulous MPG (some as high as 80 MPG) they don't protect you in the rain or the extreme heat. They are cheap to operate, but you can get seriously hurt or killed by drivers who "didn't see you". If it's gonna be your first bike, I probably would not recomend it in the New York traffic. Around campus they are great. Most repairs have to be done at a shop unless you're either mechanically inclined and have a manual, or you are familiar with them.
Each state has different laws about having a motorcycle endorsment. Some states say if the motor is under a certain size (measured in cc's) it doesn't require a M/C endorsement. Other states say ALL cycle riders must have a motor cycle endorsement. All motor vehicles must be regestered and licensed if operated on public roadways.
Hope this helps
Good luck
