Are there any ways to make car insurance chaper when your 17? |
In october im going to be 16 and neither me or my dad want to pay the massive charges for insuring a teenager that has just passed there test at 17. If you're a teenage boy......you'll have to pay a whole lot, that's just how it is. Just don't speed, or get into any accidents cause it will go even higher. Also it will depend on what kind of car you're driving. If it's a sports car, or an off roading vehicle like a Jeep, it will go up even higher. I think it starts going down a little like after you're 21, and then you get another price break when you're 25. http://www.analogstereo.com/ch... Report It After you pass your test there are some "Pass Plus" courses that some insurers recognise and will give you a discount. Try putting advanced driving into Google. Having a GPA over 3.0 will get you a lower insurance rate. we have all been there, try the scooter, post codes make a big difference. i heared some companies lower rates when you get a good g.p.a. Being an unknown to the insurance company, you are going to have high rates no matter what for the most part. You will get the lowest rates by being added to your parent's policy of course. Do not get tickets, have no accidents. Avoid new or sports cars. As you gain experience your rates will drop. I would suggest calling the insurance company first and asking them because each is different. Do pass plus when you pass your test. Most insurers will give 20% discount after this. When I was your age I got the best deal from a specialist insurance company, gladiator insurance, i think. get yur parents on your insurance. They don't need to pay for it, (although it helps) lol just insure them on your insurance. It's cheaper cos they should have been driving for many years, and should probably be very safe drivers. Insurance for new drivers is always costly cos they are more likely to have accidents. You don't want to hear this, but it's cheaper if you take drivers ed and wait until your 18 You can get a discount for good grades and you can get another discount if your high school offers driver's ed and you successfully enroll and pass the course. untill you pass your test you are lumbered with high insurance premiums when you have passed you may take a pass plus course and if the instructor signs you off then you may claim for a reduction in you ins premium provided the ins company participates in the pass plus scheme Your dad is pretty much stuck with the higher rates. If you have good grades, you can get credit for that. Otherwise, males under the age of 25, pay very high premiums, due to statistics showing that males in that age group, tend to get tickets, or cause accidents more than any other age group. I have just got insured on my first car, and there are three main things I would recommend: hi mate, Hi Daniel. My son will be learning to drive in August just after his 17th birthday. What we have been doing is looking at smaller engine cars (much to his disgust) with a view to the car being in my name and him being a named driver. The cheapest we have come up with on line has been 拢625 but this is only third party fire and theft. Fully comp was just over 拢1000. The most expensive was 拢6000. Obviously that company does not want to insure 17 year olds. Several companies would not quote at all. It would be better for the insurance to be in my son's name so he could start to build up a no-claims bonus, but unless he gets himself a part-time job to contribute, it will have to be in my name. Happy saving!! Unless you live in an area with a really good post code, you're fucked mate. Im only 18 and I bought a 拢6000 car with a 2.0 ltr engine at 17 years old and got fully comp on it. I managed to do that because I know people in the insurance business through my dad, unless you got those kinda links buy yourself a X/Y reg punto. Happy motoring. ey I pulled this one for ya, so you owe me one, haha... better check on it.. Hiya - There's probably not a lot that you can do just now, except set up a savings account in the bank and put aside a bit each month now in advance, hopefully you will have saved up enough by then for your own policy. My advice would be to go and do your pass plus course after you get your test passed, often your local council will subsidise or even fully pay for you to do this, you should enquire with them. Ok, I dont have a clue where you are and everywhere is different, but, your insurance co will give you a discount for a high GPA at least 3.0, you can get a discount for a drivers ed course or a defensive driving course. Yes it does matter what kind of car you get, but bigger is not always better, it all depends on the IRG(insurance rating group) which has to do with engine, doors, safety features, theft rating, and a few more things. I would call your ins co and as them to list you off some cars with an IRG of 16-17 those would be good cars to shoot for. Putting your parents on your policy does nothing for you(you will be listed as the main driver no matter what if you are the youngest driver)BUT if they have other policies with the same co you get a discount for that too, you might want to consider getting a cheap life ins policy so you can get a multiline discount. If there are other cars on the policy you qualify for a mutlicar discount(but they have to be garaged at the same address). As for in the future you will get a discount when you have a kid, get married or turn 25. Good Luck, finding cheap insurance is hard. But shop, shop, shop! |
