Is my terrible credit rating going to affect my insurance premiums if I pay monthly?I?

I'm buying a new scooter in the next week or so so I can get to my new job. I've got a terrible credit rating from being over zealous with credit cards and loans. I can only afford to pay monthly for my insurance. Because of my credit rating, is there a chance I'll get turned down to pay monthly and have to pay my whole premium one go? Also, my previous insurance company has cancelled my old policy because I didn't pay the bill. I never recieved any letters or anything saying they were going to do it and as far as I was aware my money was going out as usual. Is that going to count against me as well?

I was paying for my insurance, there was nothing wrong with my direct debits until two months ago when they stopped going out for whatever reason.

Most insurance companies use credit as one factor is setting rates. I'm sure your premium will be higher because of your poor credit. If you've already been cancelled due to non-payment many companies will raise your rate further (because you're not responsible) or deny you completely.
I'm almost positive you will not be able to make payments, as you have a long record of not making them-whether you think its your fault or not.

I work for an insurance company and although most companies do use credit (financial responsibilty) to determine your rate, it is not the only factor they use. You should try Progressive Insurance,Geico, or other large name companies that usually don't require you pay the premium in full unless it is under $300 a year, then they may need the policy paid in full. It depends on the insurance company and the premium - if you go through a broker they may accept payment over three or four payments and may be able to offer a 'recourse' finance deal (This means that the broker is responsible if the payments default, to the insurance company), if they cannot find an insurance company who offers their own direct debit scheme.
