Thinking of Buying a Scooter/Moped. Can anybody give me some info plz?

Do I need a full drivers licence?Or just my provisional?
What are the prices of tax and insurance like?

You will also need to do a CBT (Compulsory Bike Training) which is valid for 2 years or until you pass your test (whichever comes first)

The cost of the Road Fund is 拢15 for 12 months.

You can spend big or you can spend small depending on the style of bike that you want and the age that you want to purchase, but be wary of buying anything that has had too many owners and not much of a service history as the clutch is probably hanging by a thread.

Insurance wise it shouldnt cost more than 拢200 to get you on the road, but I can't answer this from experience as I went down the Direct Access route and therefore skipped the 125cc bracket.

Best advice I can give you is to go to your nearest dealer and tell them you have X amount of 拢's to spend and you would like advice as to what they can do for you. Ask the same question 3 times, "is that really the best you can do for me?" then tell them you will have to think about it. Visit at least 3 dealerships and decide after you have been to all 3. DO NOT BUY ON IMPULSE, you will regret it!

If the scooter is 49cc AND goes less than 35 mph.You do NOT need a drivers license with a MOTORCYCLE endoresment on it.That also depends on where you live too.The rule I quoted is for Florida.You do NEED a Tag and insurance if you owe monies (lean) on the scooter.You need FULL coverage if you are making payments and only PIP and Liability if you have the title.(again,this applies to Florida)You will pay state sales tax,tax on the paper work,title tags,ect.

if you are from the uk you can use a provisional licence on a 50cc but you need to take a C.B.T test cost about 拢80 and it will last for 2 years then you will need to take a full test or take the cbt again to renew it
