I live in California for the time of 6 months.I have a 50cc scooter. I'm from Germany and have no cal.dr.lic. |
So, my questions are: you might ask a police man. In order to drive any vehicle on a road that carries ordinary traffic in California, you have to have a driver's license (it may not have to be a California license -- ask!), a number plate (license plate) and insurance. I know a lot about this because where I live, we have some private roads, and people can drive golf carts on them, but we have had a big fight about those carts even being allowed to CROSS a regular road. You need a class m1 liscence to drive your 50cc. scooter on public roads. To get this liscence you will need to take an MSF(motorcycle safety foundation) rider training course. You also need to register the vehicle in California. To get help with these simply go to a local DMV office and tell them basically the same thing you said in your question here. They will help you out and tell you exactly what you need to do. And yes you will also need insurance. Insurance for a 50cc is very cheap though. I pay only 15 dollars a month for good insurance for my moped(50cc). First off, legally, you have 10 days from the time you move to California to get a California Drivers License. In many states you are allowed to operate whatever class vehicle you do at home with your home country's license. Obtaining a State issued license is only required for moving here, or an extended stay. Your cycle will need to be registered, which is the number plate. It will also have to pass a safety inspection. I believe (am not sure) insurance is required. It is a good idea in any case. Contact the Department of Motor Vehicles. They will have all the correct answers for you, and should be glad to assist. |
