Does my 16 yr old son have to report a no injury/no damage r.t.a. to the police? |
my 16 yr old son dropped his scooter in a car park after hitting a slippery patch.it slid into a parked car, causing no damage at all.he gave the car owner his insurance details but now im worried that the car owner is going to try to claim against him.should we wait and see what happens or report it to the police.he did not record any of the car owners details,so we cannot contact the owner.any suggestions No he doesn't. I wouldn't. He talked to the owner. It's over. Both parties should have exchange details but it's not necessary to inform the police. the other partys insurance will be in touch if he makes a claim. legally you dont have to report RTA'S to the police if no damage to persons or property. However if this worries you then contact your sons car insurance company to make them aware that this happened and NO damage occured. then if they do try and claim your insurance will be aware of it. you should always get the details of any 3rd party although as long as there is no injury and you give your details the police will not want to know, unless you want to admit to driving without due care etc.......i would advise you tell your insurance company in case he does try to claim against you , ALL accidents (regardless of any damage) MUST be reported to the police. Don't worry. No need to report it to the police. Tell your insurers, making it clear that you are telling them "for information only" and NOT making a claim. They'll have it on record then in case the other party tries to claim. They'll sort it out, that's what they're for. Make a note of what happened, while memory's fresh. Non injury RTC's do not need to be reported. The best thing to do will be to call your insurers to make them aware, how long ago did the incident happen? if you havent heard anything within a week (insurance companies will chase you) i doubt the car owner will be claiming! You should report all accidents to the police whether damage/injury occurs or not if there is a claim against you , then you will have a problem . Whether the police decide to do anything about it is up to them but they will keep a record of your report |
