I saw a commercial the other day about Schwinn electrical bikes from Canadian Tire. My first thought was, "Yeah right - just another power-operated toy to suck up more hydro." But then I got to thinking: What if more people started using electrical bikes? I mean let's be honest, many more of us SHOULD be biking to work or wherever but most don't. I'm not here to preach about that - as much as I'd like to. (For the record I bike often). But with electrical bikes, a person would not have to be as physically fit as they would to commute using a standard bicycle.
So my question is this, okay it's more like a series of questions. An electrical bicycle obviously requires way less energy than a car - especially if you hook the battery up to a solar charger! Yes, the initial expense is quite steep...ah crud. Please wait additional details.

The Canadian government is, as you know in hyper drive about the environment. The general population is also in a big uproar about global warming. The same global warming that we have caused with our own need to offer our children a better future. The point is that some people who would otherwise never see the light of day such as the elderly and over weight people are going to suffer. How you ask? The electric bike offers people who would not have the endurance to cycle for a long period an opportunity to get out and cycle with assistance when required. I see this as a greater improvement than doing nothing at all. I鈥檓 sure you would agree. Now my problem is the Governments intervention and insistent need to capitalize on this clean, energy efficient and socially practical invention. To start our government has seen this mode of transport as a motor vehicle and you now need a license to operate it. You need a class M to drive an electrically assisted bike that you could pedal faster than the motor will propel you. If you are wondering what is needed for class M, check on line under motorcycle license. Oh ya lest we discuss insurance and plating fee鈥檚. Look people it鈥檚 a dam bicycle with a little bit of help. It鈥檚 clean, It costs peanuts to recharge and it鈥檚 safe. Now lets talk about the cost of the 鈥渟mart cars鈥濃€︹€? |
