How can i get a decent road bicycle for cheap?


I'm looking to get into cycling, want a used schwinn or something like it road bike. not a mountain bike like you see everywhere. im looking to spend just around a $100. how old of a bike would i have to get and where? new ones are so expensive.

You will not get a decent road bike for $100. You will not get a decent road bike for $500. You may find a reasonable entry-level road bike with low-end components that WAS $800 and is on sale for $500.

Sorry to disappoint, because I would love to see more people bicycling and I realize the initial costs are not very wallet friendly.

But I'll tell you a couple things:

1. The most important thing is that the bike fits you. Road frames are measured in centimeters for a reason, and the wrong size will be uncomfortable, inefficient and possibly dangerous.

2. Cheap $100 bikes are exactly that- cheap. How much fun will it be if you have to spend $400 the first year to replace parts that break because they're crap? Cycling is an investment in your personal health and enjoyment. So ask yourself what that's worth. Source(s): 15 years of road & mountain bikes; riding, building, and maintaining.
Look at yard sales or put an add in the paper looking for one.
THATS A LITTLE LOW FOR A GOOD ROAD BIKE. I PAID OVER $2500 FOR MY KESTREL, BUT IT WAS NEW. YOU MIGHT WANT TO TRY CRAIGSLIST. DON'T TRY THE FLEA MARKETS SINCE THEIR USUALLY STOLEN.

My wife just bought a used Trek 1000 for $500. Thats a good bike for a beginner. I don't think you need to spend thousands of dollars on your bike!!!
I'd say, save up a bit more to buy a good road framed bike.

I think $100 road bike will be very very old, very used, and/or is very badly made no-brand bike.

If you're adament on getting a $100 road bike, then try online searches. But I'm sure you won't find a bike that meets your needs.
