I just bought schwinn bike and cant figure out how to pump air in tires. looks differnt. cant neone help? |
pictures would help check out this page. it should help you. http://solonbicycle.com/page.cfm?pageid=... did you unscrew the cap on the valve? if the valve is metal and looks skinny, this would be a presta valve. you need to buy a special adaptor so you can use your old bike pump (for schrader valves) on the presta.... youre not an avid biker, so i doubt you spent the money on schwinns high end road bikes, but instead bought just a walmart one, and they dont use presta valves.. so... This is a presta valve: http://www.bikesmart.com/products/tube_g... this is a schrader/standard valve: http://www.bikesmart.com/products/tube_g... you probably have what is called Presta valves instead of your standard valves. Go to your local wal-mart or sporting goods store get an inflation kit that includes the Presta adapter (I got mine at wal-mart in the automotive section). When you get ready to inflate unscrew the valve tip screw on the adapter and air it up. Sounds like you have presta valves. You need to unscrew the tip of the valve before you add air. You will also need a pump that will work with presta valves. Most new floor pumps today will work on either presta or schrader (schrader valves look like car tire valves). If you're still not sure, stop in to any bike shop. They will be glad to help you out and you can also buy a pump that you can carry with you when you ride in case of a flat tire. I would stay away from the adapters that are available and don't use a gas station pump to inflate the tires. They add air too quickly and if the tire isn't seated in the rim properly, the tube will blow out and a patch kit won't help you when that happens! |
