I have an adult tricycle, a Schwinn Tri-Bike. It needs painting. How would I go about painting it? |
Husband told me what to do to paint the chrome fender but not sure how or what to do to paint the rest of the bike. Get a spray can and start painting- nothing to it! Rustoleum Spray Paint! I would recommend painting a base color and then on top take a sponge and sponge on a smae color tone. I would recommend some of the Testors spray paints for model cars and such. Its a bit pricy, BUT it WILL give you a glossy finish, close to what you would get when its brand new. Sand it down first with wet/dry sandpaper (preferrably wet) and get it down to the bare metal. Use a primer the prevents rust, (Krylon is good) then just paint it. Sand it with a fine sandpaper if it's that bad. Clean it and let it dry then spraypaint it with a good metal spraypaint following the directions. Of course that means it will be all apart. Just take your time and be careful with the spraying, don't try to put it on thick it will run and leave a mess. Just thin coats.Let it dry well between coats. Sounds like fun. Good Luck! Personally, I would take it somewhere to get sandblasted prior to painting. Sandblasting is a generic term for the process of smoothing, shaping and cleaning a hard surface by forcing solid particles across that surface at high speeds; the effect is similar to that of using sandpaper, but provides a more even finish with no problems at corners or crannies. The process can be used to strip away accumulations of rust, dirt, and old paint or varnish. It must be done with caution so as not to damage the underlying surface. It would also ensure a good bond between the surface and paint. I would ask an automotive body shop for a good place to get it done in your area. You may even bargain for a custom paint job.
