Pacific Cycles bought Schwinn and put Schwinn on a mass market (Wal-Mart) caliber bike. They then put those bikes into mass market and made no distinction between what the bike shops carry (Schwinn Select) and the junker mass market ones (just Schwinn). (This of course hurt the value of the "good" Schwinns made before the Pacific disaster.) After this, most of the old Schwinn dealers either dropped Schwinn all together or do very little of the Schwinn line. I had a '99 Schwinn Peloton & got about $300 for it. The frame was a bonus, the person bought it for the Ultegra/Dura Ace components, Chris King headset & Profile carbon fork. |
