How should i sell my bike? |
i plan on sellin my bike on eBay. its a Schwinn S40 DSX that i bought in August of 2005 at target for $200. since then i have invested in over $1600 worth of upgrades, (ie, Marzocchi fork, Fox vanilla shock, mavic wheels, etc..) basically, everything except the frame and setapost is after market. the frame is only a single pivot, it greatly resembles the cannondale Gemini, but it has numerous scratches, paint chips, and cable rub all over, but the rest of the components work 100% and dont have alot of damage. most of these parts i've only had for a few months. so getting to my question, should i sell the bike as a whole or break it down and post each set of parts (Deore drivetrain, complete brake set, wheelset w/ tires...) individually. i question wether or not someone will want the bike because it has such a crappy frame. and also, any idea how much i should sell it for, as a whole? Why would you spend that kind of money on such a low quality bike. I'd break the bike down and give the frame to your buddy. You may want to consider keeping the upgrades for your next project. As far as trying to sell the upgrades I don't believe you will ever re-coup your money, your $1600 worth of upgrades are worth about $200 in todays market of used components. Not trying to pop your bubble but as it stands you have $1800 invested in a bike that's worth around $300 if you choose to sell it whole. I just sold a Trek ST 120 Alum. Y- frame the bike cost $1200 new and had LX and higher components and only got $200. I also have a Trek 5200 that is basically new and have $3000 invested with upgrades and am asking $600 for it and can't sell it. Like i said Not trying to pop your bubble but the market for used bikes and equipment is crap. Break it down. You probably will not get as much money as a whole bike with all the upgrades, as you would selling them individually. Good idea. That is what i was thinking. U may not get alot of money but every penny helps. 1- post ab ads on: http://sfbay.craigslist.org/ 2- Do not forget to Select your State craigs list is always a good place. but beware of low ballers You're joking, right ? Who'd invest $1,600 in a Target bike ? Target bikes are JUNK, even brand new. I'd take it apart, throw away that cheap frame, and sell the parts...You're going to lose ALOT of money, pal... look for ads that run for good while like hot sheet ,recycler, penn saver or your local news paper put it on the web. |
