What commuting Bike? |
I need a bike to get to schol, I will be riding with some heavy traffic. I am looking at the Schwinn Super Sport, The Specialized Crosstail Expert, The Sirrus, or the globe sport. Are any of these good Commuters, and which one will be better. I was looking for a bike to commute to school and work. The bikes you mentioned you are looking at are nice bikes. The only one of them that I test rode was the Specialized Sirrus. I did not like it at all. I guess it just didn't fit right. Another bike I was looking at was the Trek 7.6. The Trek is a VERY nice bike for the money. The last bike I looked at was the Cannondale Bad Boy (Ultra). I ended up getting the Cannondale because it was the best for me (although it was more than the Trek and Specialized). I like the Cannondale because it has a lockout front shock. The cool thing about the Cannondale is that if you want, you can swap out the 700cc rims and put mountain bike wheels/tires on too. If I were you I would get a Trek because of it low cost and great components. Check out the bikes and good luck. Oh yeah try to pick up a last years model because the will be MUCH cheaper! Source(s): http://www.cannondale.com/bikes/07/cusa/... http://www2.trekbikes.com/bikes/bike.php... Hmm I like the Schwinn Super sport: disc brakes for safety, double wall rims for strength, carbon fork for lightness and smoothness of ride, skinny tires for speed, and best of all the weight is really light at 22lbs. Of course it costs 1050$ which I find pretty steep, but you don't seem to mind so go for it. Keep in mind that for daily commuting, you want a bike which will not attract thieves. I don't know about your town, but here bikes get stolen real quick (it takes less than 30 second to open a U lock). Which is why I bought my commuting bike second-hand. The Specialized Globe is also good in the sense it is fully equipped. But personnally the only thing I need on a bike are mudflaps which can be bought for 20$. the Globe City (Specialized) is an amazing commuter bike check it out! Are there hills on your commute? Do you plan on riding much besides commuting? is this commute more than 30 minutes? If the answers to those questions are 'no', then you might want to consider a single speed bike (not a fixed gear). I don't mean those cruiser bikes from companies like Electra (tho those are _wicked_ cool), I mean a regular road bike converted to a single speed. You'll have no shifters or derailleurs to worry about manipulating or maintaining. You'll just pedal along at your own pace. Hey for commuting to college you don't want anything new anyways, it'll just get stolen. Your local bike shop would be able to hook you up with a good used frame set up as a single speed pretty cheaply. |
