I have a Schwinn Breeze from the 1960's.... any suggestions on value?

It is in really great condition. I only had to have the tires and tubes replaced. I paid $70 for the bike and $50 for the repair. What would it be worth?

You sure it is from the '60s? To check, look at the serial number stamped on the frame... usually on the head tube. It starts with 2 letters... the first will be A through L. This is the month of manufacture.

The second letter will be the years starting from 1966. This means 1966 is A, 1967 is B, etc. If it has no letters, look on the Schwinn namebadge on the front of the bike. The year may be stamped on the badge with little tiny numbers.

Failing this, or if there is a "Made in Japan (or Taiwan or China) label on it, it is from the early 80s at the earliest.

When my daughter was very small I bought a 20" wheeled version of the Breeze for her to learn on. I got it at a yard sale for $20. This was in , um, 1989, the bike was built in 1969. She was 5 years old.

As she grew, I bought another Schwinn Breeze, this time a 24" wheeled model, at a yard sale for $20. She loved that bike and rode it until it got stolen. I think I got this about 1993. This bike was also built in '69.

Now, without a bicycle, she pleaded for another. Strangely enough, I found yet another Breeze, at a yard sale, and bought it for $20. It was a 26" wheeled model. This, I am sure, was in 1994. This one was built in 1968.

All these bikes were in excellent shape and appeared to have hardly ever been ridden, but this is common for girls bikes anyway. I still ended up completely overhauling them before she rode them and she always seemed happy as a clam.

Now, at 22, she rides a full custom bike that set dear ol' dad back just about $3,000.00.

So, the time between 1994 and now notwithstanding, and considering my "luck" in finding 3 Schwinn Breezes in varying sizes, your bike is likely worth... about $20. But if the bike is for riding, the experience can be priceless. Source(s): 27 years in the industry
