What is the best woman's comfort bike that is really comfortable to be able to go on long bikerides? |
I have a Schwinn right now and it's so uncomfortable! Hurts my *** and back! Keep in mind that Comfort bikes are intended for rides of perhaps 15 miles or less. All the plushness of those bikes work against you as your weight settles into the saddle and actually causes more pressure on your "soft spots" (as I choose to call them). Additionally, they are designed to be very upright which places more weight on your butt and less on arms. This compresses your back and spine and causes back pain. Ideally, you should have a 50/50 balance of weight between butt and arms... most comfort bikes make it closer to 80/20. So, what can you do? As suggested in another answer, take it to a bike shop and have it adjusted for you. It will likely cost about $30, but it will be well worth it. When you get in the market for another bike, consider a hybrid. Hybrids are kind of a cross between a road bike and an all terrain bike while comfort bikes are a cross between an all terrain bike and a mountain bike. You can spend thousands more on a new bike, but it will be no better if it is not fitted properly. You best take your existing bike to a local bike shop and have them look at your fit. The bike needs to be adjusted or have some better fitting parts installed to suit you. Here's a good article on what causes some of the more common aches and pains due to a bicycle that has not been fitted properly: http://sheldonbrown.com/pain.html... Hope this helps. |
