What color should i paint my frame? |
i have a schwinn S40 mtb that i am painting. i already painted the main triangle semi-gloss black. what color do you think i should paint the swing arm, if at all? i was thinking sumthin like OD green...or should i just leave it gloss red? idk if the gloss and semi-gloss go together. i have included a link for a pic of my bike. dont start dissing, my bike does not have those parts. i have upgraded everything except the frame. (marzocchi, fox suspension, mavic rims, deore shifters, Hayes HFX mag hydro brakes, u get the idea..the only thing stock is the frame.) i dont want a bunch of people saying "ur an idiot for putting a ton of money into crap like that". sorry, i coodnt afford a kick *** bike a year ago so i made many upgrade to this one. anyway, just tell me what you think will look good. i also will be putting "Specialized S-Works" decals on it. yes, i no what ur gonna think about it, but thats just my humor. can u think of a good name for this bike? Specialized _________ Up to you, paint it the color you like. You ride it we don't. Keep it red, black and red go together good!!! you say it WAS gloss red? then did the main frame in semi-gloss black? i say who cares what it looks like as long as YOU like it.....use your imagination bro!!! why name it? it is what it is.... a "frankinstein"! lol have fun with it etc. etc. i used to re-do bikes for fun. painted them many different coors , changed all kinds of things on & stuff like that. i just had fun doing it. You DO know, that even with your intent of humor placing an S Works decal on the bike is illegal, right? I am not so sure you can even get a decal without having a valid serial number. Anyway, you are going to have some serious compatability problems with the parts you mention... 1) The fork you want is a 1 1/2" steerer while the Schwinn is 1 1/8" 2) The frame is not made for Hayes discs 3) The stock bike is 7 speed, while Deore is 9 speed... there will be rear spacing problems as well as shifting issues if you use the same derailleurs. You can't just "force" the wheel into the aluminum rear...you'll crack it. 4) If you choose to put a Fox rear shock on, be sure to get the correct length..while you're at it it is probably a good idea to trade the plastic bushings they use for frame pivots with brass, or even better- ball bearing 5) The frame is meant as an atb... on the road and offroad on smoother trails... and it will not handle the stresses that it seems you want to place it under. I wouldn't call you an idiot... it's your money, I would just like you to be safe. By the way...color is up to you. 26 years in the industry first im not trying to bash u here but why are u putting such nice components on a low grade frame?? once a turd always a turd. those components are made to be thrashed and im guessing the frame is not and like mirage said, lots of things wont match up. ummmm....you CAN find Sworks decals on the Specialized website i think if thats what you REALLY wanna do. his other points are valid though. wouldnt worry about the little illegal things like that though. lol. u should try to decide what kind of trail riding youll be doing and get a bike thats somewhat versatile in that area. im not doing huge drops around here so i have a hard tail with a race set up with very little suspension in the front - i thrash it hard and it keeps on tickin' though even when i do some minor drops or the occasional free ride off the trail. hey man its not about putting mercedes parts on a ford escort that im bashing its that your putting quality parts that can be thrashed on a piece of metal that might not hold up to what you components can. at least when your ready for a frame youll have the components. i personally wouldnt puch much work into a frame like that, id thrash and trash it. mt. biking is not about the look anyway. my buddy has a wicked Specialized thats full of dings and gnarly scratches as is my Klein. |
