I'M confused?

ok i have schwinn bicycle and i bought it at walmrt for about $170.00. Ok so i went on schwinn's website and checked out their bikes and they were like 1000.00 or 2000.00 y was mine so cheap compared to all the other schiwnns and how come at wal mart or sams club or u know anything else like it has bikes about 150.00 to 200.00 and u go online and see that the same make of bike (schwinn, mongoose, pacific, etc) is about 1000.00 more why r they so much cheaper at regular store for the same make of bike?????????

Pricing of bicycles is determined by the quality of the frame, and the quality of the parts hung on that frame. Some frames are made of cheaper grades of steel, while others are steel alloys, titanium or carbon fiber which are more expensive to produce and usually much lighter. Same for the components. Its like asking, why does a Cobalt sell for less than a Corvette?
Schwinn is just a brand name. The brand has gone through a number of changes since its inception in 1895. Lower-quality bicycles manufactured by the brand holding company (Dorel Industries) are manufactured in China and sold through Wal-Mart. Because the brand has not been completely destroyed, there are still some higher-end consumers willing to pay for the brand and higher-quality components at specialty shops.

The main reason why bike very in price is in the components and materiel's used to build the bikes. An example is the bikes that are purchased at wall mart are made with very cheap materials and are extremely heavy. Then you move up to the types of bikes that professional bikers use and they have high end components and are made of carbon and are extremely light.

Bottom line it is all about the technology.
Since you didn't say the model, I'm not sure that you're looking at the same bicycle.
Those discount stores only carry the lowest model in the line.
The Schwinn website lists the most expensive models first.

Schwinn went bankrupt (several times I think) and the name was purchased by another company. Like many other venerable bike brands of yor (Masi, Motobecan, etc.) the brand name you see today has absolutely no association with the original. That being said, most brands of bikes have offerings across the price range. And, most bikes (even a lot of high-end carbon-fiber bikes) are constructed in China.

The bikes at Wal Mart or Sam's Club are the bottom of the line. What you see on the web-sites are upper range models. You get what you pay for.
