What is the best in quality and in looks for a bicycle brand for a cruiser? |
i use to think schwinn was the best and i got an electera for christmas. Well, before I clicked on your question to see the details, all I saw was the question about the best brand for a cruiser, and I clicked on it expecting to be able to say that Electra was the current best brand in cruiser type bikes, but you beat me to it! In ALL honesty, Electra is THE name in leisure bike brands on the market both in terms of quality as well as variety! check http://www.electrabike.com for proof. CONGRATS on receiving the best in the industry! Someone really loves you! As Electra IS a full on bike shop brand name, be sure to find out where the bike was purchased, and after you have put on a few miles (at least 50-100 miles) take the bike to the shop of purchase and (assuming the shop is worth a damn) request your free tune up (which may be listed under either your own name, or the person who purchased the bike for you) and make sure the bike is brought back to day 1 specifications. The reason for this is that ANY bike will start to "break in" and after a decent break in period, will need readjustment to ensure long life and enjoyable riding! Just for the sake of history... Schwinn stopped being a quality bike brand when the NAME was bought by Pacific Industries Holding Company. Pacific is the brand most responsible for the mechanical travesties foisted upon the American public in places of lower knowledge such as Wal-Mart, Target, Big Lots etc... ANY bike brand that is sold to a mass market store is also built by a lowest bidder builder (aka a dude/dudette that can slam AT LEAST 30 bikes together in 8 hours without any real regard to quality of build, or safety!) As a former mechanic (although I still wrench on the side) I built around .5-1.5 bikes per hour... somwhere around 4-12 bikes per 8 hour shift depending on external factors. Imagine what is sacrificed in quality when that much quantity is slammed out in 1 day! THAT is what Schwinn has become. Not ONE SINGLE PART of the Schwinn brand legacy remains in the name other than the ability to rebrand Huffy/Pacific/Motiv brand junk as Schwinn, hoping no one will have paid attention that Schwinn as a company does not exist! Don't forget to wear a helmet! Josh W Source(s): Bike mechanic/geek/salesperson/form... racer for MANY years! I know my stuff! nirve is the best in my opinion I bought a late 1980's bike for $50 six years ago, and routinely ride it for 1500 miles a year (8-month season here). I also put it on an exercise stand during the off-season. The best bike is one that you ride until it wears out. Schwinn hasn't been a top-quality bike for decades, but they've done some nice retro bikes as well as spinning bikes. st coast or west, north or south, makes a difference in style and whats hot on the street,or beach!! also, depending what type of riding you are going to be doing?? again jawa is right on the money Electra is the one. You have a real keeper, a truly fun bike #1. mcs |
