1978 Schwinn Le Tour III, reasonable asking price? |
I have a 1978 Schwinn Le Tour III lightweight bicycle that I want to sell. It is in average condition. Any ideas as to what it is worth - what a reasonable asking price would be? Wow.. the above answers are generous. The LeTour was a good bike in it's day, and I think it sold originally for about $300 if I'm not mistaken. There was nothing too special about it other than the Schwinn name which actually meant something then. I also think that this was the first or second year that they were imported bikes rather than U.S. built. I would be REALLY happy with $100 if the bike is in excellent shape. If it shows wear the price will drop dramatically. Source(s): 26 years in the industry Much depends on the exact condition, scratches, finish etc. But on ebay, bikes like that rarely go for more than 200-300 at the top end. Schwinns _may_ have more value to a collector, but the Le Tour III is not usually the kind that people lust after. Be sure to take lots of well-lighted, in focus, up close pictures of the various parts, any scratches, parts accessories, decals etc. Good luck Scott p.s. is it Red? I say about 400 dollars. I am stunned by the previous answers! Unless it's in phenomenal, perfect condition, a more likely price would be $100. Maybe $120. (And, depending on the condition and market, it could be more like $60.) It's a ten-speed with 120mm rear dropouts; straight steel (no chromoly, etc.). All that said, you may find the one person who's just dying to have your exact bike, and you could sell it to him/her for more. |
