Looking to get a bicycle seat to put on the back of my bike for my 14 month old(26lbs).?

I would mainly just be riding on paved paths or clean trails...need a suggestion on which bike seat to buy for the back of my Schwinn. Don't want to spend too much--ie want to limit it to about 50/70 bucks.

I'll probably get flamed for this, but the safety of your child is only worth 50 bucks?

Your child is approaching the weight limit for many seats, even the good ones (that cost about $150) so I suggest you consider a trailer instead of a seat. They are much more stable and easier to handle than seats especially as your child gets heavier. If you can't find the weight limit on the seat assume it is 30 pounds.

Some things to keep in mind as you shop and ride...

- Buy the best seat and the best helmets you can buy. Even the most expensive safety equipment is cheaper than a trip to the hospital, and a lot less painful.
- All children that are in seats or in trailers are required to wear a correctly fitted helmet. You should wear one too- if you got hurt what would your child do without you?
- Kickstands are for bikes, not kids. Never allow the child to remain in the seat with the kickstand down.
- Check the bike and seat before you ride each time. Things do work loose and become dangerous, even when just riding along on the road. Source(s): 27 years in the industry
I found mine at The Bicycle Garage. They installed it for me. I didn't want to rish putting it on myself and doing it wrong.
I got a perfectly good one at Wal-mart for about $25. It attaches to your seatpost bolt in the front and to your bottom frame rails in the back (chainstays). It has a plastic piece (that is ugly and cheap but gets the job done) that keeps little hands and feet out of the spokes, and away from the rear tires and brakes. It worked very well. Now my girl is too big for it so I'm selling it to a guy at work. It was cheap, easy to install, and adjusts to fit any bike except dual suspension mountain bikes. The only reason to pay more for one is if you want one that is quickly detachable. If you only have one bike and want to ride without the baby seat part of the time, it would be money well spent.
