Walmart bikes?

I just wanted to know if Walmart bikes are any good. Im looking for a male bike just to ride on the bike trails for some working out. I seen this Schwinn for $150.00. Will I be wasting my money or will a Walmart bike last? Or is there a better bike that Walmart sells that are better then Schwinn's please let me know. They also have a brand called Next, mongoose and so on. Thank you for your help

everyone has given me great answers. Now I really dont know what to do. I cant choose a best answer cause they are all good. I will leave it up to voting. As far as me getting a bike. i really dont know yet. I guess I can check out ***** sporting goods or Sports authority. Thanks a bunch for all the feedback.

Walmart didn't make the bike they are only selling it.....A Schwinn is a Schwinn no matter who sells it!

Wal-Mart might be selling a name brand bike, but they are not of the same quality as the bikes sold at private bike stores. For example, you will get the heaviest frame with the cheapest welds, no choice of sizes (one size fits all is NOT a good idea) the cheapest d茅railleurs with plastic jockey wheels, the worst brakes, heavy wheels with tires destined to go flat every time you ride. A few years ago, two friends of mine purchased mountain style bikes at Wal-Mart thinking they were getting a real bargain. They took them out on the C&O canal towpath near Harper's Ferry WV and were truly miserable trying to ride their clunky bikes. The bikes were sold at a garage sale and new bikes from a bike store were purchased, resulting in much happier friends.

If you really want a decent bike that fits you properly that you will enjoy riding, up your budget by a few hundred dollars and get a quality piece of equipment that won't leave you frustrated.

Here's the catch-22: people aren't willing to spend money on a decent bike because they are afraid they won't like riding, so they get a cheap-o "Mart" bike first. The problem is that the bike sucks SO BAD that they end up not liking cycling, and it's not the sport's fault, it's Wal-Mart's.

NOTHING bicycle-shaped is any good at Wal-Mart. Even IF (and that's a very big if) they carried real bikes, they don't offer service, warranties, or knowledge, and are assembled by the drunken, one-eyed, autistic stockboy with a crowbar and chewing gum over Thanksgiving holiday.

You will absolutely, positively, definitely waste your money if you buy a bike at Wal-Mart. Go to a real bike shop, spend the money for a real bike built by real mechanics with real tools, get real service and a real warranty, and a bike that comes in SIZES, not one size fits all.

Trust me.

Any bike sold at a Department store is problematic. Heavy and cheap, completely out of adjustment. You will be back here asking what is wrong with it. You will take it to the local bike shop to get it fixed and be bitchin about the repairs costing what you paid for the bike...... Sooo

Start at the local bike stores. Cross shop a couple or all in your area and find a reasonable deal. Discuss with the local experts what you expect to do with the bicycle and take their advice. The bike you buy there will probably be warrantied for a year including free adjustments.

At Wal-Mart you can spend $150 on 4 bags of groceries.

Schwinn and Mongoose are brands owned by the same holding company. They both make really cheap bikes and much better bikes. The cheap ones are heavier, don't work as well, and won't last as long. You can guess which ones WalMart carries. I just bought a Schwinn for very easy off-road use at a bike shop for about $300. It's much better than anything sold at the big box stores.

HTH

Do not buy Schwinn, or Mongoose. If you are trying to get exercise, and do it regularly, then you should buy a Next Mountain Bike. Not too big, or it will be harder to control on a normal day on the road.

honest opinion, don't buy a bicycle from wal-mart. You'd be amazed some customers brought them back, 'cause something was not tighten.

i bought mongoose for $100 from walmart and using it for 2 years.it works great.

you also try costco if you have membership

as long as its name brand u should b fine if ur not gonna do any special ridding like racing and stuff but id go w/ the mongoose before the schwin

Schwinn and Mongoose are decent name brands for bicycles. They are also sold at Toys R Us. I wouldn't be concerned about buying one of them from WalMart. I'm not familiar with Next brand bikes.

i have gotten five bikes from walmart over the years since i was a little girl and they have all lasted a long time
