Hybrid bike for a shorter, older lady, rider? |
I need some advice about purchasing a hybrid, or hybrid type, suitable for my requirements. I am in my sixties and am under 5 feet tall. I would like a bike suitable for riding the numerous bike trails that are becoming available in my area. Also to get to the shops about a mile away from home. It is not easy to buy bikes my size but I have come across a Schwinn World, that comes in an XS frame and a Mongoose Kaldi. Anyone had experience with these please? I would like to add that the Schwinn bike was in a reputable bike shop and not a department store. Price was $460au. If your having a tough time with size, youth sizes (although sometimes harder to find better quality). Ask if you could try out the bike around the shop, If its feels good, go for it, you could ask if all the components are adjustable to your size. Hybrids are convenient to use for both trails and road, its a matter of changing tires. I have a hybrid K2 that I bought used (valued at 1300Dollars but got it for 300) its a great bike and I am comfortable with it. (I'm 5'2") Go by the inseam of your legs, not your actual height. Also make sure your bike is fairly light as well, and you might want to invest in cyclling clip shoes to gain power in your cycling. This is probably the right bike for you. I've included an article I wrote about the different types of bikes in case you would like to read it. I've also included an articles about bike sizes-you're probably going to need a 43-46CM frame bike and bike safety. |
