What's a good, inexpensive (< $1000) road bike? |
Favorite brand/models to look for would be useful too, as I'm considering purchasing a used bike off Craigslist. Thanks in advance! For getting started in road cycling, you'll want to head to a reputable bike shop where they can get you into an entry-level racing bike around your price range. With minimal road cycling experience there's too many variables in purchasing a used road bike. After some time, if you get to know the cycling folks in your community, you will have the option of checking out some used bikes with folks who know what they're talking about, and who will let you try them out. Trek's entry level Alpha-Aluminum model is around $700, and could be fitted with upgraded components for under $1000. The other poster also mentioned some quality bikes to look at.
