New road bike $779.00? |
google: trek pilot 1.0 it is the blue and white one. is it any good? they say it will last for a long time any advice about it... just my .02 cents if its a beginner bike, then its not such a great deal for $779. its kind of average to no deal. the things that I would look into upgrading in order of importance, wheelset, brakes, pedals, derailleurs (rear, front), shifters. the triple will come in handy if you live in a hilly area. otherwise, a double chainring would probably do you better (+9 to 10 gears on your cassette) your choice, you can buy at this price, fall in love with biking and in a years time really just be fed up with the parts listed above. then, you'll go out and drop a nice stack of dough for what you can have up front. or, if youre just buying to ride something, forget what I said above and have a good time. cheers. it is an okay bike but i would recommend getting a double 9 speed rather than a trple 8 speed. your best bet would be to go and discuss this issue with the people at your local bike shop. personally i would not buy it. P.S. as long as you dont mistreat your bike any should last a long time if they state this then there is a lack of actual features of high points in the bike It's a nice bike, and I'm sure you'd love it, but it isn't a great deal. You can find a Giant OCR 3 for around $600-$650 and it's pretty close to the same bike. There are really only one or two components that are better on the Trek, and none that would make a big difference in weight, performance, or durability. They are right though, it will last a long time, but so will a lot of other bikes. OK, but you can do better in that price range for an entry level bike check out the Specialized Allez series the Giant OCR's and the KHS Flite series http://www.specialized.com |
