Need road bike for a 6'7"? What should I get? Be careful - a lot of bike shops will try to fit you to the sizes they have in stock, by putting you on a frame that's too small for you, then adding an extra long seatpost. You won't like it... Unfortunately, these days there are few stock bikes made in sizes larger than 58cm - which is a bit small for me and I'm 5'11" Your options are: - take a stock bike with a 58cm or maybe 60/62cm frame if you're lucky, and swap out seatpost and handlebar stem to make it fit better. The h'bars will still be too low for you. - get a custom or semi-custom - check out Rivendell Bicycles on the web, they make standard sizes for tall guys. - get an older, used road bike - the larger sizes were more common a few years back. Good luck. Remember - proper fit is the most important consideration... don't compromise. a Cannondale for the weight, they are nearly indestructible Leonard Zinn makes custom bikes. He specializes in large frames (he's tall himself) and has made a lot of them. He knows what works in large frame sizes. You see a lot of his bike tech tips and other bike related articles on velonews.com. http://www.zinncycles.com/ Lennard Zinn has ALWAYS made custom bikes for those of "gifted stature" such as yourself. http://www.zinncycles.com/bikes.aspx?bik... Sure, it might be a bit expensive, but there is no better investment than a PROPER fitting bike. Most companies will only offer frame sizes up to about 62cm, and being 6ft 4 myself, that is at the high end of what I can comfortably ride, but at 6ft 7, that would be a bit too small. Hope this helps! Wow! You'll have a hard time buying off the shelf. Zinn is a nice idea as a few other people suggested. Curtlo Cycles also offers custom-built frames that are reasonably priced. Just as an FYI..."Cannondale" and "indestructible" don't belong in the same sentence. |
