What size road bike should I get? I am 5'6".? Get fit by a bike shop. At 5'6" you are probably around a 52 or 53 cm frame measured from the center of the bottom bracket shell to top of the top tube, or around 50 or 51 cm frame measured center to center. size 2 If you mean cycle 18" and if you mean motorcycle a 1000. It's best to go to a specialty bike shop to be "fitted". They can advise you on the proper frame size for your inseam and stem for your reach. An improper fit will cause you problems such as back pain. Spend the money and get it right. While seated you should be able to put your feet on the ground without difficulty. The size depends upon your inside leg measurements, although you are 5'6" you may have exceptionally long legs or even little stumpy ones. You may also still be growing in which case you may want to take this into consideration as well. Try several bikes for comfort before you make your final purchase. My problem has always been finding comfortable bike seats. A bike shop will be your best bet but as a general guide when standing over the top tube, you should be able to put at least two fingers between the tube and your crotch. When in the drops, you shouldn't be able to see the front hub. |
