I wear my road bike SBD shoes to spin class - can I walk 1/2 mile to the gym without damaging them? It depends if they are inset SPD clips or not. If they stick out from the bottom of the shoe itself, don't walk around in them. The clip is pretty sturdy, and isn't going to get too terribly damaged, but you might get some thing stuck on it that may hinder your ability to clip in. If the clips are inset, you could walk in them the 1/2 mile without hurting them, but it's more comfortable to wear a pair of clogs or slip on sandals and change when you get to class. Source(s): Lots of years spinning, having had both inset and non-inset SPD clip shoes. wuts spin class only if you have cleat covers (sometimes called coffee shop covers). otherwise, carry a pair of sandals to get to/from the gym. you might as well not risk it and take a pair of shoes with you or else walk barefoot. i don't think walking in your cleats is the best idea Cycling shoes are not made for walking. Not saying it is impossible (as mentioned above, there are cleat covers). SPD road shoes may also have the pontoons to protect the cleats but there are much better footwear to go 1/2 mile. If you must, I guess no one can stop you. You just look strange doing so. You're better off with mountain biking shoes since the SPD cleat is generally exposed on a road shoe. Either way, neither is all that comfortable or good for your ankles, particularly the road shoes which will have you waddling like a duck with your toes pointed upward. This puts a lot of stress on the tendons in your feet and ankles. The suggestion to wear sandals is a good one. |
