How do you upshift on a road bike?

Depends what type of shifters you have. If Shimano STI:

1. upshift by pushing the small lever behind the main brake lever toward the center of the bike.
2. downshift by pushing the large brake lever toward the center of the bike.
Use the shifter thats behind the braker lever on the right.
