I have specialized Mondo Pro tires on my road bike and want to know how long is the life of the tires? The best way is by looking at them. There is no magic number, but you will find an average for you and your location. The rear tire will wear much faster than the front. Look at the top of the tire while it is inflated to full riding pressure - if the tread is gone or if the surface is flat instead of round the tire is "beyond specification". Another thing you wll see is cuts in the tire and is the rubber dried up? If the tube is poking through the cut - get a new one. It seems like you can use a front tire for a rear but the rubber tends to dry up by that time so get a pair. Having sasid all that I get between 1200 and 2000 miles out of a rear tire if notthing bad happens. Source(s): Worn out a lot of tires! A few variables will determine the life of the tires. The weather the road surface and of course how often you put mileage on them. If your bike has been sitting a while and are looking to get back on it, just inspect the tire for cracks or dry rot. If any question go get some new ones. Bring your tire with you if you are going to the local bike shop. Have them give you another opinion before you drop some money on a new pair. This web link also gives some reviews on the same tire. http://www.roadbikereview.com/mfr/specia... Hope this gets you rolling.... anywhere from 1000 to 1000 miles depending on road surface, riding styles, and tire compound. you are more likely to damage tires in general than wear them out. |
