I want to purchase a Schwinn Volare 700c road bike but I don't know if it'll fit me. I am 6'2". The Volare is sized to be sold in the mass merchant stores who believe that one-size-fits-all. Unfortunately, they don't. The model you are asking about is suitable for riders up to about 5'6". Taller riders will have big problems... kinda like trying to wear a pair of 32 length pants. You are going to need a 60 or 62cm (large or XL) frame. I understand your desire to get a bike for the least amount of money- we all do- but there are some things you should consider as you search: 1) Buying a bike for about the same money as a dinner for 4 at a franchised steakhouse will get you poor performance and will become a wall hanging on your garage wall. 2) Any problems you might have with it will need to be addressed at a bike shop, and you will end up spending more money- a lot more- to get the problems worked out. Returning the bike to the store and getting another will not solve the issues. Bike shops take care of their customers. 3) In the 1860s when the safety bike (a bike with 2 wheels the same size) was invented the average cost of a bike was $81, or about 3 MONTHS pay. I don't expect anyone to spend 3 months pay on a bike today, but I think 2 or 3 WEEKS pay would be reasonable, don't you? So, put aside around $400, talk with a couple of local bike shops about closeout bikes they have, and get a great bike for a great deal. Source(s): 27 years in the industry No! Stay away for it. It's a cheap one-size-fits-all Chinese made piece-o-dung. At 6'2" there is no hope that it will fit you. Take your money to your local bike shop and they'll fix you up with something that fits for the same amount of money. If it's from Walmart / Kmart, or Target, it's a piece of junk. Sorry. Go to a bike store. Would you buy a car from a place that sells TV's ? If you HAVE to get a Schwinn, go to the Schwinn dealer. They have the better product. The owners of Schwinn decided to make 2 lines of bikes -- the dept store junk and real bikes. The real bikes are at the dealer. They will fit you to the correct size frame etc. |
