I want to change the gear casette on my road bike its a 10 speed now can I put on a 9 speed? |
I want to change it so I have a 27 gear for going up hills Your question doesn't make sense to me. You have a 10 speed cassette this implies a 20 or 30 speed bike. You want to change to a 9 speed cassette for 27 speeds. I assume you have a tripe crank up front, so you have 30 speeds now. So how will less gears help you exactly? If, I assume again, you want larger cogs on back for lower gears? Why not get larger cogs on a 10 speed cassettes? Since I can't figure out what you're doing I will say this. If you attempt to go from 10 to 9 speeds you will at least need to buy 9 speed shifters. (expensive) and a new chain. You will possibly need new derailleurs as well. I suggest you rethink what you're doing. I can't suggest anything because I'm not sure what you have to work with but you are looking at a spending a lot of $$$$ this way. So long as you have the proper shifters and rear derailer you should be fine. But if you still have a ten speed shifter, it will let out a different amount of cable than you would need to properly shift with a nine speed cassette. if you change your casette, you need to change your derailer to. this is best be done at a good bike shop If you move from a 10sp to a 9sp cassette you will not need to change your derailleur. I, like others, am a little bemused as to why you feel the need to alter your bike to 9sp for hills? Why not get a 12-27 cassette? Pressumably you are riding a triple at the moment, you should be able to climb most hills on a 30/27!!! Have a think about it! |
