Is $100 a good deal for a Trek 560 road bike (late 80s early 90s) that needs new rims and tires? Depends on why it needs new rims and tires. You may have some difficulty in replacing the seven-speed drive train. Probably worth closer to $50. Hey if it gets you off the couch and away from your computer it is an awesome deal. Might want to put some new wheels on it before you try it out though. Later YES NO. Over priced. New rims and tires will cost you that and more not to mention the cables, chain, shifters.... Tires are no biggie, wheels aren't bad. I don't think I'd give that much for the frame, tho. Like a previous poster mentioned, $50-60 is more like it. I'd pick up some used wheels w/7 speed freewheel or 7 speed cassette,(or even 6 speed) as it's likely that's what the rear end is spaced for. The 560 is a good frame but not top of the line. With the right parts it could be a very nice ride. wheelsets can be as cheap as $100 and can go well over $1,000. tires are like $40 for pretty good ones. Tubes for a set are about $10. for $250 with the parts, i dont think a old bike like that is worth it. Maybe a lower price might do it. |
